Amrita Sher-Gil, considered the mother of Indian modern painting, became known as the Indian Frida Kahlo. With her paintbrush she explored the sadness felt by people, especially women, in 1930s India, giving voice and validity to their experiences.
The word yoni means womb. Yoni mudra invokes the primal energy inherent in the womb of creation. It makes the body and mind more stable in meditation and develops greater concentration, awareness and internal physical relaxation.
Ardhanarishvara symbolizes that the male and female principles are inseparable. The composite form conveys the unity of opposites in the universe. The male half of Ardhanarishvara stands for Purusha and female half is Prakriti.
Around us are the goddesses. Within us are the gods. Inside are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - creating, sustaining and destroying. Outside are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Shakti - enlightening, enriching and empowering.
Sacred geometry ascribes symbolic and sacred meanings to geometric shapes and proportions. It is associated with the belief that a god is the geometer of the world. The geometry used in the design and construction of religious structures.

Before I left to London, it was always a wish to gift Ammachi something special. She always said that only until I was a woman, I would wear sarees. I picked up the sarees from her wardrobe and visited some of the most important places in her life.
