URU art harbour is a cultural hub situated at Kochangadi, Mattancherry, Kochi. URU seeks to be a space for collaboration and a continual hub for artistic, cultural, and intellectual exploration to move the dialogue about (and of) local cultural specificities from the margins to the centre and to be a free-space for artistic expression, critical inquiry, and creative disruption.
URU is committed to the creation and maintenance of art and culture in the public realm and actively encourages civic engagement and public discourses on art and cultural practices. URU’s public programmes are envisioned to play an important role in reshaping the public’s attitude, to counter cultural stereotypes, and affirm the artistic and cultural contributions of the city’s diverse communities. To do this, URU seeks to facilitate and engage the public with, and broadens its access to art, culture and discourses and create ways in which cultural production, artistic practices, and creative forms constitute and manifest the nexus between the aesthetic, the philosophical, the political, the economic, and the ethical, intended in their widest senses.
URU’s activities include publications, exhibitions, residencies, screenings, music, design interventions, discourses, workshops and educational initiatives.
