Monsoon reminds me of my grandma's house - where the concept of time still doesn't exist. My grandma was the first story teller I ever knew. When I was a kid , I used to brisk walk next to her through the paddy field with my little feet, my mind wandering in the mystic world of her stories that she spun around me with her faith & fables. Here is a monsoon record of my grandma - Ammamma.
AJAY MENON
Ajay Menon, a web and graphic designer by profession, met his true passion in photography when he started traveling around Kerala, where nature is at its best. Working on frames and colors, nature and life, he started observing how things could be presented better, could be captured better, without losing its real essence, in a way of his own. Passion led into action and this is what he is now- an amazing and unique artist who has an eye for detail. He makes eyes sparkle with his art, translation from the click of the shutter to a finished image.
Remember those times when you really believed the world was your oyster? Roaming about with a free spirit and curious eyes, exploring the world to its finest details, running around barefoot and enjoying every bit of the breeze and rain. But somewhere in between, you grew up and forgot it all. Here is a monsoon disc - an ode to our childhood to remind ourselves who we really are.
AVIAL
Avial are an Indian alternative rock band formed in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India in 2003, and known for their Malayalam lyrics. The band initially included lead vocalist Anandraj Benjamin Paul, turntablist and backing vocalist Tony John, guitarist Rex Vijayan, bassist Naresh Kamath and drummer Mithun Puthanveetil. Avial had their first breakthrough with the 2003 single "Nada Nada". They are known for pioneering what they call "Alternative Malayali rock", which is the style of combining Malayalam lyrics and rock music. Their eponymous album got them six out of seven Jack Daniels Rock Awards and Footprints Young Achiever's Award in 2008. The band was praised for achieving mainstream success despite singing in their native language.
After Paul and Kamath's departure in 2008, John took over the vocals. Later Binny Isaac joined in as bassist. Their debut album covers social issues, consisting of folk songs and poems. In 2009, they collaborated with the Italian band A67 for the song "Chi Me Sape" ("Who Knows Me Knows It"). They composed the singles "Aana Kallan" and "Chillane" for the Malayalam films Salt N' Pepper (2011) and 22 Female Kottayam (2012). They also did three songs for the movie Second Show (2012)
‘Paava Kathakali’ is the only known glove puppets tradition of Kerala, in which themes and characters are adopted from Kathakali, the classical dance theatre of Kerala. Few families of Palakkad district are the traditional practitioners of this form of puppetry. This community traces their origin to Andhra Pradesh, who had migrated and settled in different parts of Palakkad, centuries before and of these only three or four families are known to have practiced this art and continue to do so. The performer in this video is K.C. Ramakrishnan, who received the national Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian puppetry.
