THE TRAVANCORE ROYAL FAMILY is the ruling house of the Indian princely state of Travancore. The family lost the ruling rights in 1949 when Travancore Kingdom merged with the Indian Union and their privileges were abolished by a constitutional amendment in 1971. The Travancore Royalty could be also considered descendants of the ancient Cheras, Ay-Venad, Pandya and Chola dynasties, due to consistent intermarriages with these lines over the centuries. The Travancore royals are among the rare breed of royals who follow the matrilineal system.The members of the family are based in Trivandrum, Kerala and are the ones who keep alive the traditions and rituals of their ancient dynasty including the upkeep of the famous Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple. The cross does not have very happy connotations in Christian religion, because it is where Jesus Christ was crucified. It is not a happy thought, but I have my own way of interpretation, why the ancients, accepted the cross.
According me, the stick of the cross is the symbol for “I” (she is showing one finger on her hand), but if you cut the “I” (she is crossing one finger with another), you cut your ego. So when the “I” is cut, then you find peace. I believe this is the reason why cross was accepted as a symbol of Christianity. Not because of the unhappy connotations of your prophet being crucified. What a horrible way to kill a person!
Cardinals did not say anything. I do not know what they thought about it, whether they accepted it or they thought: “what was this foolish woman talking all the nonsense.”
